Why Nets Fans Should Stay Hopeful This Season

After the recent power rankings placed the Nets at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, I believe it’s important to highlight some optimism about the team. Today, I want to explain why Nets fans should be hopeful going into the season.

The Nets are young and hungry.

Led by Jordi Fernandez and a young group of players, they have everything to prove. From the five rookies—Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, Egor Denim, Nolan Traore, and Danny Wolfe—to vets like Michael Porter Jr., Hayward Highsmith, Terrance Mann, Nicholas Claxton, and Cam Thomas, the team is eager to grow and improve. This toughness shows a Nets team with a lot to prove.

Let’s start with the rookies.

The Nets’ selection of five rookies in the draft raised many questions, but one thing is clear: they are all motivated and eager to prove themselves. Each player has their own unique skills, but four of the five share something in common: they are excellent passers with great vision. This will complement ball-dominant players like Michael Porter Jr. and Cam Thomas. Drake Powell is known for his athleticism and could be a great 3-and-D addition, while Egor Denim stands out for his size and versatility. Each rookie brings something special to the team, and if used wisely, they could foster growth, chemistry, and success later in the season—even if they face some growing pains along the way.

Veteran Leadership

Although the veterans on this team are still relatively young, they bring valuable experience. Michael Porter Jr. played a key role in the Nuggets’ 2023 Finals run and knows what it takes to win. This kind of leadership is vital for showing a young team what success looks like. Similarly, Terrance Mann’s playoff runs with the LA Clippers from 2020 to 2024 provide more insight into what it takes to succeed in the postseason. Having both players , in addition to Cam Thomas, gives the Nets a scoring duo of Porter Jr. and Cam Thomas. Paired with pass-first rookies, this might be the recipe for a successful season.

Jordi Fernandez

The optimism begins with Jordi Fernandez. He’s a defensive-minded coach who pushes a fast-paced style of play. Jordi has a proven track record of developing young players. With the respect he’s earned and the veteran leaders on the team, the Nets have a real chance to surpass expectations.

Final Thoughts

It’s hard not to get excited about the Nets this year, regardless of their position in the power rankings. A young, hungry team with plenty to prove is always thrilling. Even if the season doesn’t go perfectly, we’ll see whether this young core is set for long-term success or if a few more additions are needed to improve the team.
